On Wednesday, February 1, interested residents and community members joined the Moonbeam team and Surround Architecture at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art to discuss the most recent site plan for 2641 4th Street. A lively and interesting discussion was had over a large scale printed site plan. Moonbeam Boulder and Surround Architecture submitted a Pre-Application Review Submittal to the City of Boulder on January 5, 2012. This is an initial regulatory step in the official City of Boulder development process – a general submittal that outlines the project background, concept, and design team. It also offers a chance to ask pertinent questions about the project and the site, and as such is an important method of understanding the project limitations, constraints, and parameters – as well as the potential opportunities. Pre-Application Reviews are intended to aid property owners in determining how development regulations apply to a specific property, and are conducted by City Staff.
An initial informal gathering was held on November 16, 2011, at BMOCA in Boulder. The intent of the initial meeting was simply to discuss and share ideas, and to explore neighborhood sensitivities surrounding the former Junior Academy site at 2641 4th Street. Project participants included Christopher Foreman, Owner of Moonbeam Boulder; Dale Hubbard and Tim Laughlin of Surround Architecture; and Charlie Hager of JVA Engineering. All participants were available for one on one discussion, and – for those less inclined to speak directly with the design team – a comments box was available. Community interest proved to be strong, and the meeting was a successful one.
